When it comes to make-up in India, there is a wave of ignorance; it is something you do on your wedding day, and on every other day, you wear black kohl and lipstick or better yet, wear nothing because the world deserves to look at your pores and smudged black raccoon eyes!!
Who doesn’t love a fine water mist? up the organic question up a bit and let me introduce you to one of many good things Modern India has introduced me to. This is an uber luxury ayurveda brand named Kama Ayurveda . They deliver worldwide (not to Dubai unfortunately 😦 ) and I went absolutely crazy at the store because currency exchange rates people!!
FACT: 12 year olds know how to contour.
FACT: I turned 30 this March but today is the first day I bought a contour kit.
PROBLEM 1: I am Indian, which means my skin is brown. Plus, I am a big girl which means i have a round face. I searched through youtube for a video for round faces and this one by Cody Wren hit the spot! When I tried with my beautiful Cocoa Contour from Too Faced, I was disappointed that the colors were too light for my skin, I had to apply a lot of it to get any semblance of contouring, I feel like it is designed for caucasian skin but I can’t deny that it smells beautiful. It has a light texture and comes with a soft kabuki brush perfect for clean sweeps. Once I declare myself a contouring pro, I will try the Cocoa Contour Deep, maybe it will work better.
Who would have known there are so many steps in contouring? I don’t have concealer or setting powder! Apparently even Wiki How tells you how either all your products should be powder or cream not both. But here I am with a new cream foundation, powder blush and powder contour! Go figure!
Anyhoo, 1st try, do you think I managed anything? I think I managed to get some color, the blue dress pic is without contouring and the one on the right is with.
- My BB cream by Givenchy is thick and of a lighter shade, I am surprised the Sephora webstore is not showing it because I picked it up from Sephora. Anyway, it is really good. It’s thick but light enough. I used that for a concealer under the eyes.
- I used my Cocoa Contour from Too Faced for contouring. First I used the light cocoa on the bb cream to pretend that together they are a concealer, and then Medium Cocoa and tons of Dark Cocoa to give myself some cheekbones.
- Because it was a midnight experiment, I didn’t put foundation before. But I bought the Giorgio Armani Luminous Skin Foundation, will review it after I have used it for a few days. This is the one for dry skin!
- As blush I used Orgasm by NARS. The world has been right about this one. This is a shade for anyone and everyone. Even on my Indian skin, just a pop of it was enough!
- On my lips, was Melted Chocolate by Too Faced in Chocolate Milkshake. The shades seem lighter on the lips than on the swatches.
PROBLEM 2: Contouring the nose. Ugh, I have a pug nose, contouring this needs skills, but I learnt quickly that I should steer clear of it, because bad contouring left me looking like my nose is a button I breathe through.
(Note to self: This is a public blog, not your bedroom, dress better next time you wish you take a picture. )
Beauty haul this month was not easy on the pocket. But surely my lips are happy!!
In Dubai, summers are like winters. Long and dry. Lips constantly chapping and I take no step without a lip balm in hand. I have also lost my interest in bright colors, am completely in love with my first Melted Lipsticks by Too Faced.
Not only do they really melt on your lips, they don’t dry up like other matt lipsticks. They are creamy and yet the colors are rich. Did I forget to mention they smell delicious?
Absolutely in love! Worth the money! Tho I am not sure if I would buy bright colors in this, the color seems to be highly pigmented and I feel a brighter color may just look too thick.
I decided I needed to pay more attention to my eyebrows. “They define you said my friend.” So I bought an eyebrow pencil from Bourjois which has a brush on top and got down to getting tutored on Youtube.
Have any one of you seen the videos? The first one began by cutting her brows, I considered that for a bit but didn’t pull through which, I think is a good decision. I have big, full, naturally arched eyebrows. I bear excruciating pain once in six month to get them cleaned but I have never done anything more with them.
Give a woman a color pencil irrespectively, she will want to color. So I decided, I needed to ‘fill in’ my brows. BAD decision. Taking that color off may have resulted in me loosing some hairs up there.
So I packed my bags, bought a one way ticket and moved. Just like they tell you in movies and inspirational memes. I had to. Not much was left in Mumbai for me. However, very very thankfully I moved to an amazing style capital, DUBAI.
There were so many apprehensions of rules and laws here….two weeks and I know I have nothing but only gratitude towards the city. At some level, it’s more cosmopolitan than even Mumbai. You get on the metro and you learn a style tip a day.
It’s exciting! Sephora, forever21, I could go on about how cheap shopping is and how that makes it lovely for a girl.
So as a welcome gift I bought myself a kohl pencil from Sephora. Unlike most I have used in the past. This said and did exactly what it had to. Dark colour without smudging.
I am absolutely against kohl that smudges, because that makes me look like I have dark circles. Which is the case with Maybelline Colossal Kajal. It smudges like nobody’s business
Second. I went absolutely inside at bath and body works. They have the cute body mists for only like 30dhs which isn’t much and I was looking for something I could carry in my bag everywhere.
Fitted the bill perfectly and it’s a new flavour I haven’t found in India. If you find it, pick it up because it is the right balance of fruity and aqua which I think is important. Otherwise it becomes to heavy for the nose. I anyway like aqua more. But a mix is the best, always.
So I know i keep taking breaks. But I am here and its spring. and its time to discuss some beauty!
Nivea’s very cool Total Face Clean-up for three months now and I LIKE IT.
What: Nivea Total Face Clean Up
Why: It doesnt dry up your skin
When: I almost use it every alternate day
The problem with me is that I cannot sit with packs on my face. I don’t have the time. Look at me, i have no time to blog even! Forget 10 mins of face-packing. Therefore, I need quick fix solutions that don’t come with a heavy price. You’ll always hear me speak of quick fixes. Even my haircut is always one that doesn’t need maintenance. Anyway this is not a haircut, this is about Nivea. As usual, trust it.
Nivea’s super cool Lemon Grass Fresh shower gel. So this month I decided I will not pay Rs 400/- on a shower gel. But I love shower gels so I needed a solution. It broke my heart to head to the super market looking for anything under 400 bucks and then I decided on Nivea.
What: Nivea Lemon Grass Shower Gel
Why: smells divine. it just soapy enough. doesn’t dry your skin.
When: I use it every day
Estee Lauder’s Spring Colors…of course I love EL. which girl doesn’t You want to display it on your vanity and admire it all the time. Their eye shades have been quite awesome in texture and durability so I don’t mind recommending a color.
What: Pure Color Estee Lauder Vivid Shine Cyber Gold
Why: Texture of the color is always beautiful
When: Depends on the color and your mood!
